Demolished, Nuked, and Crushed, the Dems headed to oblivion

After an unnecessarily long primary process, the DNC selected a chair last week.

Rather than resolve the party's turmoil the compromise
between DNC Chair race winner Tom Perez and Rep.
Keith Ellison may have led to even more turmoil. (Oklahoma
Democrats)
To begin with the race was mostly a farce and was largely between the open establishment candidate Tom Perez, former Obama Labour Secretary, vs. Rep. Keith Ellison (Minn.), a radical left so-called alternative, more known for his Muslim faith than for the fact that otherwise his views largely overlap with Perez's.

They had a process that was as self-punishing as one Mao's party meetings, and with the transparency of a Goldman Sachs meeting. The process included a collection of pathetic ne'er-do-wells:

  • Jehmu Greene - a former Clinton/Gore campaign worker, Rock the Vote president, and North Carolina Dem operative, Greene would pretty much be Donna Brazile 2.0. Why do I say that? It's not only because of the obvious parallels of her being a black female. She's been active for years in Democratic politics without actually running for office, while also supporting failed campaigns and appearing as a Democratic surrogate on Fox News.
  • Howard Dean - Ex-DNC chair 2005-2009 and governor of Vermont. Pulled out in December 2016.
  • Vincent Tolliver - An Arkansas congressional candidate kicked out for claiming Ellison's Muslim beliefs were anti-gay.
  • Peter Buttigieg - Mayor of South Bend, Indiana. And by the way he's gay. He says don't forget that. Dropped out to support Perez.
  • Jaime Harrison - Chair of South Carolina DNC. Another red state loser with no chance of accomplishing on the state level, so why not try in DC? He dropped out to support Perez.
  • Sally Boynton Brown - Executive Director of Idaho Democrats, and one of the more hilarious flops. She actually earned 12 DNC votes despite saying that her job was to "tell white people when to shut up". With these skills it seems clear why the Democrats don't hold a single state-wide office in Idaho, or even a congressional seat.

 the Deputy Chair? (WikiCommons)
There were also two people on the ballot that actually talked about things that were important, Air Force veteran and Sanders progressive Sam Ronan as well as voting rights attorney Pete Pekarsky. After a campaign that took way too long, The vote ended up going to a second round after Perez earned 213 and Ellison 200 in the first round. In the second round Perez earned all of the non-Ellison votes from the first round and ended up not only winning, but appointing Ellison to the dubious post of "deputy chair". Up until now there had only been a staff of vice-chairs.

The fake views

However, the actual DNC race is irrelevant now, just as it was when it was going on. This was supposed to be a charade, a way for the party to paper over the indiscretions of Donna Brazile and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the two previous chairs. They drafted Tom Perez, a lackey not only of Obama, but of Eric Holder in order to run for the head of the party when he had never actually run for public office. The only reason he ran was as a stab by the establishment in order to ward off a real candidate, Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison. The fine congressman from the Twin Cities area has a loony left record, but then again so does the youth current in his party.

What was really an issue was that neither Ellison nor Perez were honest enough to own up to the shameful fact that the DNC cheated former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Not only this, but there were authentic fault lines between the two in relation to universal vs. private health care, the Middle East (Israel vs. Palestine), and campaign finance rules. Unfortunately instead of focusing on those issues they chose to deflect most of the attention to the natural function of the DNC: Raising money, getting out the vote, rebuilding state parties, and retaking state legislatures.

Future outlook

One of the people that came out and laid his body on the railroad tracks in order to prevent Ellison from getting elected was law professor and influential Democratic Party advocate Alan M. Dershowitz, a defense attorney famous for defending OJ Simpson. In an op-ed for Fox News Business Dershowitz claimed that Ellison's past anti-Jewish statements were clearly a problem for him, and that his clarifications were insincere. He also stated that a win for Ellison would cause him to dump the party.

So now that Keith Ellison was defeated but appointed Deputy Chair,  how can Dershowitz sleep at night? After all, Tom Perez has been a part of several scandals, including a private email scandal that mirrors that of Hillary Clinton and is more egregious than the Mike Pence flare-up over the past week. Should something happen that was cause Perez to step down, what would happen? Who would take over, the Deputy Chair Keith Ellison, or one of the "vice-chairs" that are basically Clinonista pawns? Dershowitz and the "moderate" (corporate) Democrats continue to play peak-a-boo with reality; in order for him to justify his continuing support for the Democrats, he must play this game of logical fooseball:
  • A. Keith Ellison's new post of Deputy Chair is a meaningless office with no power, therefore Dershowitz is endorsing the DNC creating a fraudulent office that lies to its members and voters about party business.
  • B. The Deputy Chair post does carry authority and therefore Dershowitz's rhetoric about Ellison being unacceptable is total posturing and he is completely fine with his party having a person he himself has characterized as a true anti-Semite in a key position.
Either way there is a general trend where the center-left is losing its grip on the Democratic electorate, if not on the party itself. We will soon see the fault lines that Ellison and Perez are trying to paper over will soon become yawning chasms. The elements of the party similar to Dershowitz are negligible, and liberals know that the future generation of the party is a far cry from the the party of JFK, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and Gore Vidal. This theme is not going away anytime soon, because it's been bubbling below the surface for some time.
